Press Statement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Liu Xiaobo Being Awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize

I would like to offer my heart-felt congratulations to Mr. Liu Xiaobo for being awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Awarding the Peace Prize to him is the international community’s recognition of the increasing voices among the Chinese people in pushing China towards political, legal and constitutional reforms.

I have been personally moved as well as encouraged by the efforts of hundreds of Chinese intellectuals and concerned citizens, including Mr. Liu Xiaobo in signing the Charter 08, which calls for democracy and freedom in China. I expressed my admiration in a public statement on 12 December 2008, two days after it was released and while I was on a visit to Poland. I believe in the years ahead, future generations of Chinese will be able to enjoy the fruits of the efforts that the current Chinese citizens are making towards responsible governance.

I believe that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s recent comments on freedom of speech being indispensable for any country and people’s wish for democracy and freedom being irresistible are a reflection of the growing yearning for a more open China. Such reforms can only lead to a harmonious, stable and prosperous China, which can contribute greatly to a more peaceful world.

I would like to take this opportunity to renew my call to the government of China to release Mr. Liu Xiaobo and other prisoners of conscience who have been imprisoned for exercising their freedom of expression.

1°- CONVERSACIÓN.- Lo que ustedes amables lectores van a repasar en seguida, es la conversación sostenida por el teólogo brasileño Leonardo Boff y el Dalai Lama, aclarando que el primero es uno de los renovadores de la Teología de la Liberación.

Esta fue la plática, comentada posteriormente por don Leonardo:

“En el intervalo de una mesa redonda sobre religión y paz entre los pueblos, en la cual participaba el Dalai Lama y un servidor, maliciosamente, más también con interés teológico, le pregunté en mi inglés defectuoso”:

“Santidad, cuál es la mejor religión?” Your holiness, what’s the best religion?

Esperaba que dijera: “El budismo tibetano” o las religiones orientales, mucho más antiguas que el cristianismo...”

El Dalai Lama hizo una pequeña pausa, sonrió, me miró fijamente a los ojos, lo que me desconcertó un poco porque yo sabía la malicia contenida en la pregunta.

Y afirmó:

La mejor religión es la que te aproxima más a Dios, al infinito.
Es aquella que te hace mejor.

Para salir de la perplejidad delante de tan sabia respuesta, pregunté:

“¿Qué es lo que me hace mejor?” Aquello que te hace más compasivo, más sensible, más amoroso, más humanitario, más responsable, más ético...

La religión que consiga hacer eso de ti es la mejor religión.

Callé, maravillado y hasta los días de hoy estoy rumiando su respuesta sabia e irrefutable.

No me interesa amigo tu religión o si tienes o no tienes religión. Lo que realmente me importa es tu conducta delante de tu semejante, de tu familia, de tu trabajo, de tu comunidad, delante del mundo.

Recordemos:

El Universo es el eco de nuestras acciones y nuestros pensamientos.
La Ley de Acción y Reacción no es exclusiva de la Física.
Es también de las relaciones humanas.
Si yo actúo con el bien, recibiré el bien. Si actúo con el mal, recibiré el mal.
Aquello que nuestros abuelos nos dijeron es la más pura verdad:
“Tendrás siempre el doble de aquello que desees a los otros”.
Ser feliz no es cuestión de destino. Es cuestión de elección.
Cuida tus Pensamientos porque se volverán Palabras.
Cuida tus Palabras porque se volverán Actos.
Cuida tus Actos porque se harán Costumbre.
Cuida tus Costumbres porque forjarán tu Carácter.
Cuida tu Carácter porque formará tu Destino.
Y tu Destino será tu Vida.
No hay religión más elevada que la Verdad

Buen fin de semana y acuérdese, sea católico, protestante ó de cualquier otra religión, lo único es la VERDAD, porque ahí está el GRAN ARQUITECTO DEL UNIVERSO...

China must not miss the opportunity to talk to the Dalai Lama

Passau, Germany, 21 September, 2010 - "China must not miss this opportunity to talk to the Dalai Lama to resolve the Tibetan issue," said Mr. Roland Koch, the former Minister President of the German state of Hesse. "I believe it is in the Chinese own interest to make peace with the Dalai Lama."

Mr. Koch made these remarks during the 2010 Menschen in Europe Award presentation to His Holiness the Dalai Lama by the Verlagsgruppe Passau.

"This man stands for non-violence," he said. Mr. Koch added that failing to support His Holiness means the gun is right. He called on the free people of the world to stand and do something for the Tibetan people.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that he was honored to receive the award. He said that since childhood, he had a close feeling with Deutschland. "You built a new nation from ashes. From immense destruction you have built a strong economy and developed a good democratic system. I admire you all," he said.

His Holiness said that the education system should focus more on human values and quality. Moral ethnics not based on religion but on Secularism. However, Secularism doesn't mean disrespect for religion.

Speaking on the Tibetan issue in response to a question from the panel discussion's moderator, His Holiness said, "Our demand is simple. The Tibetan issue has nothing to do with the Dalai Lama's institution. Tibetan people have placed trust in the Dalai Lama and majority of Tibetan people will listen him. I am one simple person. The Tibetan issue is an issue of 6 million Tibetans. The Chinese try to make the Tibetan issue a Dalai Lama issue."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that the 20th century was a century of war and the 21st century should be a century of dialogue and peace. Peace does not mean that there are no more conflicts. "But the goal should be to find for both sides, a solution that is acceptable," he said.

Previous winners have included former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Israeli President Shimon Peres.

"É nocivo tentar discutir, com base na filosofia ou na metafísica, se uma religião é melhor que outra."

Penso algumas vezes que a religião é como um medicamento para o espírito humano. Não podemos realmente avaliar se um remédio é eficaz independentemente da utilização e da condição específica do doente. Não podemos dizer que o remédio é excelente devido a este ou àquele ingrediente. Se deixarmos de fora o doente e o efeito que o remédio tem nele isso deixa praticamente de ter sentido. O que tem sentido é dizer que no caso de tal doente com tal doença esse remédio é o mais eficaz. Em relação às tradições religiosas é o mesmo: podemos dizer que tal tradição é a mais eficaz para tal indivíduo. É nocivo tentar discutir, com base na filosofia ou na metafísica, se uma religião é melhor que outra. O importante é que seja eficaz para cada caso.
